Below are clay and tāniko kete (woven kits or baskets) symbolic of my cultural heritage and kaupapa Māori (a cultural way of working) approach with clients, sharing the knowledge gained over many years working as an art therapist in mental health non government organisations in Aotearoa - land of the long white cloud (New Zealand) and Perth Western Australia.
In this version, Tāne a prominent atua (spiritual being or god), obtained three kits of knowledge from the highest heavens and introduced them to Te Ao Māori (Māori world) to teach mankind the principles to live by. One kit taught practical and humanitarian knowledge, the second gave instruction on sacred ritual, esoteric or spiritual knowledge, the third informed mankind on the nature of evil, magic, warfare and casting spells.
